The purpose of this informational memo is to provide information regarding the 2021 Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Fan Program.
The LIHEAP Fan Program is a partnership between the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and local organizations to provide free fans to Nebraskans in need. DHHS administers LIHEAP funds to local participating organizations that purchase and distribute the fans during the LIHEAP cooling season (June 1st – August 31st). To be eligible for a fan, clients must have an active LIHEAP Program Case. Clients can present a copy of their LIHEAP approval notice to the local organization, or the local organization can utilize the IVR to verify this. Please refer clients in need of a fan to the nearest participating organization.
· The public can access the list of participating organizations (titled Fan Program Contacts) in the Fan Program section on the LIHEAP page of the DHHS Public Website.
· Eligibility Staff can access the list of participating organizations (titled Fan Program Contacts) on the LIHEAP page in EARL.
Note: Due to COVID-19 and recently implemented program requirements, fewer organizations are distributing fans than in prior years. There are not distribution sites in all areas of the state.
