Cece, a single mother of three children, came to Lift Up Sarpy County through one of our collaborative partners, Omaha Bridges Out of Poverty, an organization dedicated to ending poverty through education. Cece, like so many other underserved members of our community, was finding it impossible to locate an apartment she could afford in Sarpy County.
Although she is actively employed, Cece would have to work 80 hours a week at minimum wage to be able to afford the average rent for two-bedroom apartment for her family. She felt stuck and at the mercy of her circumstances.
Omaha Bridges Out of Poverty brought Cece’s case to one of the weekly Lift Up Sarpy County collaborative meetings where her case was discussed in confidence and several solutions were brought to the table.
Cece is on her way to providing an environment of well-being for herself and her family. She graduated from the Omaha Bridges Out of Poverty course, “Getting Ahead,” she her family are now in safe, stable housing and Cece is on her way to gaining additional financial independence. She is employed at an organization that helped her when in need and now finds great joy in helping others achieve their dreams.
